The Joy of Flash

Flash is my basic design tool, it's the one I pick up first to doodle ideas. It's also immensely powerful giving control over every aspect of the user interface, synchronising sound, vision and interactivity and being able to communicate with external sources like databases and web sites. I love it because it can be quick and dirty or exquisitely refined, you can do blunt hand drawn animation or full motion video or anything imbetween.

The popularity of Flash is good for everyone. It's safe to assume that if you use it on your website pretty well anyone who wants to see it will be able to. As a 'look' it has become acceptable for a wide variety of broadcast applications and turns up in all areas of the schedule from childrens animated programmes through music video production to info-graphics for serious documentary and news shows. And in the corporate world it's adding impact to all areas of business communication right down to enhancing powerpoint presentations.

It's also got an exceedingly wide user base which means that there's always going to be someone who knows how to do exactly what you want to do.
